Medium: Driftwood, reclaimed walnut, natural tree branches,

Crash explores the invisible breaking point of the human psyche.

The centerpiece is a fragment of driftwood, which inherently holds the energy of a crashing wave in its weathered shape.

A palette knife and a deliberate impasto technique was used to build up a heavy texture of individual strokes to mimic the roiling surface of water.

This repetitive, labor-intensive process mirrors the gradual accumulation of heavy emotional and mental loads that people carry over time.

The wave is elevated on natural branches above a stable reclaimed walnut base, separating the crisis from the solid ground below.

An internal framework of sheet metal and acrylic is designed to refract the illumination upward through strategic openings; manipulating the light to mimic trapped water bubbles—the final, gasping breaths of a submerged spirit.

The pattern of light casts the upper crest of the wave into deep shadow; which can be the isolating reality of psychological collapse.

When individuals finally crash from the weight of life's burdens, it almost always occurs in the dark, unseen and unnoticed, as a silent, cascading crumble of emotions crashes and falls apart in the shadows.
